Abstract Submission Extension of Deadline to 26 April 2010

Abstact submission for the WCEAM & ICF/IQ & AGIC Congress has been extended until 26 April 2010.  The full paper of the successful peer reviewed abstracts will be published in the Congress Proceedings by Springer Verlag.  In addition, selected papers may be further peer reviewed for publication in the Engineering Asset Management Review Series, also published by Springer Verlag.

Organisers of special sessions are to encourage all presenters to submit via the online system to ensure all material is correctly recorded for the program.

The World Congress also welcomes application and case study presentations and interested speakers should complete the expression of interest.

Please visit the congress website for full details.

Australian Green Infrastructure Council (AGIC) Joins World Congress

The Australian Green Infrastructure Council has announced that it will be holding its annual conference during WCEAM 2010.  This one day event is programmed for Tuesday 26 October and AGIC members are invited to attend this day and also consider registering for the entire WCEAM including the Congress Dinner on Tuesday evening.  Site visits are being arranged to local sustainable projects on Wednesday 27 October. The World Congress welcomes Adjunct Professor David Hood as a Co-Chair for this major event. Further information will be featured on both the AGIC website and the WCEAM Congress website.

 Keynote Speakers

The Congress is happy to advise the following 3 keynote speakers have accepted invitations to present.

Rhys Jones - Abstract excerpt:
Understanding short crack growth in 7050-T7451
To put this in context 7950 is now the primary aerosapce aluminium alloy used in Defence and Aerospace applications. It is the primary alloy used in the F/A-18, the Super Hornet and the Joint Strike Fighter. This paper will present the results of a detailed experimental and analytical study into the growth of near micron size flaws and will relate the implication of these findings to fleet management.

Michael Pecht - Abstract excerpt:
Information Systems Safety and Availability – A New Time-Bomb
Information systems have started to control everything from buildings to cars to our basic energy and economic infrastructure. While the complexity of these systems has increased, there have been increasingly more problems with the availability and safety of these systems. This presentation will address the challenges facing the world and possible solutions.

Margot Weijnen - Abstract excerpt:
Whole Life Asset Management in interconnected infrastructure systems
Infrastructures become increasingly interconnected. For example, IT penetration into energy infrastructures turns them into 'smart grids'. This makes previously disconnected infrastructures interdependent in their day-to-day operations, and it requires alignment of the asset management processes and activities. Complicating this alignment, however, are greatly different time constants for innovations. This alignment and its impact on overall system performance, downtime and cost can be analysed by using Agent Based and System Dynamic models.
